“Wow, you guys look great,” Ezreal exclaimed as he approached Sara and her kids. Brand launched himself into Ezreal’s arms.

“Are you famous?” Janna asked, clutching his hand.

“Nah. Rafe is.” Ezreal scowled at Sara’s outfit of jeans and a REKD T-shirt he’d given her. “Didn’t you have time to make a costume for yourself?”

“I’m not really into dressing up,” she said. “You look amazing.”

“You should have seen the look on Darius’s face when he saw me.” Ezreal couldn’t help preening. “I felt quite smug.”

“I’m glad.” Sara straightened Brand’s costume.

“I didn’t think this champion wore a cape,” Ezreal said.

“He doesn’t,” the little boy ran his fingers over the gauntlet in Ezreal’s hand, “but I made him a superhero and that’s better.”

“So, you’re an impressive seamstress too,” Darius said, coming to stand beside them and extending his hand to Sara.

Ezreal’s hackles rose at the way his partner was scanning her shapely figure.

“She made the kids’ outfits too.” He moved nearer to her and put his hand on the small of her back. She edged a little closer.

The corner of Darius’s mouth quirked up, and Ezreal realized he’d been played, but he didn’t care. He felt protective of Sara and the children in a way he’d never experienced with anyone before. And he wouldn’t put up with anyone messing with them. He stood a little taller, and the big man gave an approving nod. Ezreal relaxed.

“You already know Darius and Rafe.” He pointed toward the other two men who’d joined them. “That’s Kayn. He’s over programming.”

They congratulated Sara on the costumes before excusing themselves and moving on.

“I wish you could have come in a costume too. Maybe next year.” Ezreal put down Brand and took his hand, glancing around. “This has been crazy successful, especially once word got out that our pro teams would be here. It’s tough for some of them because a few don’t speak English very well.”

“They’re in the North America region but they don’t speak English?” Sara asked.

“Some of them come from other countries, especially Korea. It’s so popular there it can be tough to stand out. A few of the best can get waivers to play in other regions, but we limit the number.”

“Is that where Kayn’s from? Korea?”

“No, he’s from Phoenix,” Ezreal said, his tone teasing. “But his mother was born in Seoul.”

Sara shook her head, glancing around at the crowd again. “I had no idea your game was so big.”

“More people watched the World’s competition last year than the Super Bowl. It’s a big deal. Our finals this fall will take place at Madison Square Garden.”

“In New York City?” She shot him another surprised look.

“Yep. That’s why Kayn bought a condo there,” Ezreal said. “When do you think it’s best to do the tour?”

“First thing,” Sara said. “I don’t know how long this little guy will last.”

“Let’s go then. Janna, are you excited to see where I work?” Ezreal asked.

“Yes.”

When they reached the front door, he handed the little girl his key fob and had her unlock it.
